FROM ART GALLERIES TO PERFORMING ARTS AND CULTURAL CENTERS

Southwest Minnesota is known for its natural landscape of prairielands and rolling hills. This land has inspired art for many. Today the arts are growing in Southwest Minnesota, from art galleries to performing arts. 

 

Cultural history and Native American art can be found at historical sites such as the Lower Sioux Agency, Jeffers Petroglyphs, and Pipestone National Monument. The region is also home to international and cultural festivals (link).

Prairie Maiden Treasures

The Pipestone Indian Shrine operates two store locations, the Prairie Maiden Treasures and at the visitor center at the Pipestone National Monument. Stop by for cultural demonstrations on peace pipes, stone carvings, and more.

BARC

Think of the Business, Arts, & Recreation Center as your place to gather from 2 people to 600 or more.  BARC includes a 3,572 square foot, 650 seat auditorium that has hosted concerts for Grammy winning artists, plays, and more.

Laura Ingalls Wilder Pageant

Walnut Grove | Redwood County

The Laura Ingalls Wilder Pageant is a family-oriented live drama based on the life of Laura Ingalls Wilder. The pageant runs for 3 weekends in July each year. The grounds also hosts live events at its hillside amphitheater.

SMSU Theatre

Southwest Minnesota State University's outstanding theatre facilities include a 300-seat recently renovated proscenium theatre, an experimental Black Box Theatre, scene and costume shops. Check the website for show dates.

Historic Palace Theatre

First opened in 1915, the theatre brought motion pictures, vaudeville and touring companies to the area. The theatre continues to offer live entertainment, movies, and events year-round.
